April 1, 2024 News Summary

Houston Astros pitcher Ronel De Jesus Blanco pitched a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, April 1, 2024. Blanco is the first Dominican-born pitcher to throw a no-hitter in Major League Baseball history.

Blanco, 28, was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and signed with the Astros as an international free agent in 2015. He made his MLB debut in 2022 and has been a member of the Astros' rotation since the start of the 2023 season.

In his no-hitter, Blanco struck out 12 batters and walked two. He threw 89 pitches, 63 of which were strikes. The Dodgers' only base runner reached on an error by Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena in the fifth inning.

Blanco's no-hitter is the ninth in Astros franchise history and the first since Mike Fiers threw one against the Dodgers in 2015. It is also the first no-hitter in the Major Leagues this season.
