Lebrun Bows to Brazilian Hugo in Round of 16
French table tennis star Alexis Lebrun's Olympic dream ended in the Round of 16 on Wednesday, July 31, as he fell to Brazil's Hugo Calderano.
Lebrun, a rising star in the sport, had captured the hearts of French fans with his impressive performance leading up to the Olympics. He became the junior national champion in singles in 2020 and repeated his success in 2021. This year, he defeated top-ranked Frenchman Simon Gauzy to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Despite not being able to reach the podium, Lebrun received a standing ovation from the crowd at Arena Paris Sud, which was filled with his supporters. The young Frenchman, making his Olympic debut, was overwhelmed with emotion as he left the court.
