Portugal Held to 1-1 Draw by Czechia

Stanek Blunder Gifts Hranan Equalizer

Fourth Meeting Between Nations at EURO

Portugal were held to a 1-1 draw by Czechia in their UEFA EURO Group F opener on Tuesday, with Tomas Hranan canceling out Diogo Dalot's opener.

Portugal dominated the opening exchanges and took the lead in the 33rd minute when Dalot slotted home from close range after a cross from Vitinha. However, the Czechs drew level just before halftime when Hranan pounced on a rebound after Lukas Stanek parried Mendes' header.

The second half was a more even affair, with both teams creating chances. Cristiano Ronaldo came close to giving Portugal the lead but his header was well saved by Stanek. At the other end, Patrik Schick had a glorious chance to win it for the Czechs but he blazed his shot over the bar.

The result leaves Portugal and Czechia both on one point after the first round of matches in Group F. They will each be looking for a win in their next game, with Portugal facing Spain and Czechia taking on Switzerland.

This was the fourth meeting between Portugal and Czechia at the UEFA EURO since 1996. Only Italy and Spain have met on more occasions.
